Gunmen kidnap 12 female farmers in Borno

A group of unidentified gunmen, believed to be Boko Haram terrorists, abducted at least 12 women in Mussa district, Askira‑Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, on Saturday evening as the female farmers were returning from their farms. The Borno State Police Command confirmed the abduction, and Police Public Relations Officer Nahum Daso said an investigation has been launched. Although details remain limited, authorities are working to gather more information.

This incident is part of a series of attacks by armed groups in northern Nigeria. Last Monday, 25 schoolgirls were abducted from a school in Kebbi State, an event that also resulted in the death of the school principal. In a separate case, more than 300 schoolchildren were taken from schools in Niger State, with 50 managing to escape. Additionally, an attack on a church in Kwara State last Tuesday left three people dead and 38 worshippers abducted; the Kwara State Government later reported that all 38 abductees have been freed.

The ongoing assaults on civilians, especially in rural areas, have heightened concerns about safety and security in the region. Nigerian authorities face increasing pressure to address these security challenges and protect vulnerable communities. As the investigation into the latest abduction continues, the focus remains on securing the safe return of the women and preventing future incidents.
