A former high-ranking member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Barrister Timothy Odah, has officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Odah, who previously served as the PDP’s State Financial Secretary and Legal Adviser, announced his defection during a visit to the APC Secretariat in Abakaliki.
The former commissioner cited his desire to support leaders working towards the progress of Ebonyi State as the reason for his decision. He expressed gratitude to Governor Francis Nwifuru for creating an inclusive environment that welcomes all political actors. Odah commended the governor’s approach, stating that it has made political reunification in the state possible and meaningful.
Odah emphasized the importance of embracing peace, unity, and collective development in the state. He stressed that political differences should not lead to hostility and that genuine development can only be achieved through dialogue and collective reasoning. The former commissioner also urged politicians to avoid violence, particularly during elections, as it only empowers adversaries.
The APC and PDP in Ebonyi State are not vastly different, according to Odah, but rather two parties with a shared history and common faces that have taken different paths. He vowed to bring back peace-driven politics and called on politicians to be ambassadors of peace, empathy, and tolerance.
Odah’s return to active politics is expected to help attract much-needed infrastructure to his Ukawu community, which currently lacks electricity and motorable roads. The State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, welcomed Odah into the party, praising Governor Nwifuru for fostering a political environment that encourages individuals to join or return.
The APC in Ebonyi State is committed to peaceful dialogue and collective problem-solving, according to Emegha. He reiterated that opposition can be beneficial in challenging the ruling party to do more, but it should not lead to conflict. Instead, parties should work together to proffer solutions and develop the state.
Odah’s defection is seen as a significant development in Ebonyi State’s political landscape, highlighting the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving progress. As the state continues to navigate its political landscape, the focus on peaceful dialogue and collective development is likely to remain a key aspect of its growth and development.
