The Kaduna State Government has introduced a monthly sanitation exercise, designating the last Saturday of every month as a statewide Sanitation Day. This initiative aims to promote public health, improve hygiene, and mitigate environmental hazards across the state. The first exercise is scheduled to take place on November 29, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, this monthly sanitation exercise aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s environmental and public health agenda, which prioritizes the prevention of flooding and reduction of ecological risks. Maiyaki emphasized that the exercise is a proactive measure to protect the wellbeing of residents, going beyond mere street sweeping to address the root causes of environmental hazards.
The Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, described the initiative as a crucial step towards creating cleaner and safer communities. He called on community leaders, local government councils, civil society groups, and residents to actively participate in the exercise and take ownership of their surroundings. Buba stressed that a clean environment is essential for a resilient and healthy Kaduna State, urging all residents to join in the effort.
To ensure effective coordination and compliance, government monitoring teams will be deployed across the state. The exercise is seen as a shared responsibility, with residents, community leaders, and government agencies working together to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
