Trump halts migration from third world countries

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to “permanently pause” migration from all “Third World Countries” following a recent attack near the White House that resulted in the death of a National Guard member. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, is believed to have been carried out by an Afghan national who entered the United States in 2021 under a resettlement program.

This move marks a significant escalation of migration measures implemented by the Trump administration. According to President Trump, the plan aims to allow the US system to “fully recover” and includes the termination of millions of migration cases approved under the previous administration, including those signed by former President Joe Biden.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump outlined the key components of his plan. These include the removal of individuals who are not deemed a “net asset” to the United States, as well as the termination of federal benefits and subsidies for non-citizens. Additionally, President Trump stated that he would “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility” and deport any foreign national deemed a public charge, security risk, or “non-compatible with Western civilization.”

The United Nations has responded to President Trump’s announcement, urging the US government to continue allowing asylum seekers access to the country and to provide them with due process. Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the UN secretary general, emphasized the importance of honoring commitments under the 1953 Refugee Convention. Similarly, Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the UN human rights office, stressed that asylum seekers are entitled to protection under international law and should be given due process.

The White House and US Citizenship and Immigration Services have not yet responded to requests for comment on President Trump’s announcement. The move is likely to have significant implications for migration policies in the United States and may spark further debate on the issue. As the situation continues to unfold, international organizations and governments will be closely monitoring the US government’s actions and their impact on asylum seekers and migration flows.
