The Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina, Nigeria, announced the promotion of 19 academic staff to the rank of professor following the 56th meeting of its governing council on November 27. The council approved the promotion of a total of 113 academic staff, effective October 1, including 19 professors, 20 readers, 31 senior lecturers, 17 lecturer I’s, and 26 lecturer II’s. In addition, 36 staff members were converted to various cadres and upgraded to higher ranks.
The meeting also welcomed the university’s newly appointed Pro‑Chancellor, Senator Hadi Abubakar‑Sirika, who pledged to work diligently to uplift the institution. He met with the leadership of the university’s four in‑house unions, promising loyalty, support, and cooperation to drive progress.
Another significant decision was the approval of a 100 % upward review of wages for the university’s cleaners, a step aimed at improving the welfare of support staff. The council commended the university’s management for its effective stewardship and expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far.
These promotions and wage adjustments are expected to positively impact the university’s academic and administrative operations. With a continued focus on academic excellence and staff development, the university aims to enhance its reputation and attract top talent in the region. Under the leadership of the new Pro‑Chancellor, the institution is poised for significant strides in the coming years.
