The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, launched Ojaja University’s Ile‑Ife campus on Saturday, marking the 10th anniversary of his coronation. The non‑profit institution is presented as a legacy project aimed at reforming education in Nigeria by providing quality learning and serving as a model for national educational change.
During the ceremony, Oba Ogunwusi thanked the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, for his positive influence on his life and the university’s development. The Sultan, who attended the event, praised the Ooni’s investments in education, health and other sectors, stating, “I thank Almighty Allah that we have people like you who are really committed to enhancing the life of our people.”
Prof. Lere Baale, Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, described Ojaja University as more than an educational institution—it is a cultural embassy and a centre for African leadership renewal. The university seeks to provide a platform where entrepreneurs, scientists, agriculturalists and cultural scholars can thrive. Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Jeleel Ojuade called the university a tool for generational empowerment.
The launch was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, and the Orangun of Oke‑Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin. Ojaja University is expected to make a significant impact on Nigeria’s education sector by expanding access to quality learning and promoting cultural exchange. With its focus on African leadership renewal and entrepreneurship, the university is poised to shape the continent’s future and attract students and scholars from across Africa and beyond.
