The Nasarawa State chapter of the Labour Party has elected new executive officers to lead the party for the next four years. The election, conducted through a consensus arrangement, resulted in Alexander Ombugu becoming Chairman, Bulus Sakks as Secretary, and Esther Arishi as Treasurer. Other elected officials include Isiaka Okpu as Financial Secretary, Ablaku Anthony as Public Relations Officer, and Emmanuel Ayaka as Auditor.
John Shammah, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, said the election process was approved by the party’s national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He noted that the party had faced internal, man‑made challenges but expressed optimism that the new leadership would improve its prospects in the 2027 general elections. The election was peaceful and transparent, and INEC’s acting Head of Department for Election and Political Party Monitoring in Nasarawa State, Mohammed Hamza, voiced satisfaction with the process.
New Chairman Alexander Ombugu thanked the national leadership, state congress delegates, and party members for the opportunity to serve. He called for support and encouragement from members across the state’s 13 local government areas to ensure the party’s growth and success. Ombugu pledged to adopt an open‑door policy, ensuring every member is involved and their opinions respected.
The new leadership is expected to play a crucial role in preparing the party for the 2027 general elections. With internal challenges resolved, the party is poised to move forward and increase its chances at the polls. The Labour Party’s national leadership has been strengthening structures and building a grassroots base in preparation for the upcoming elections, and the election of Nasarawa’s executive officers is a significant step toward that goal.
Looking ahead, the party will focus on building a strong campaign and engaging voters across the state. The newly elected executives face the task of expanding the party’s existing support base and reaching new areas. As the 2027 elections approach, sustained effort will be needed to build momentum and improve the party’s prospects. The new leadership in Nasarawa State represents a positive development, and the national leadership will be watching closely as the executives begin their work.
