Anambra Onwa Dezemba Celebration Unveiled

The Anambra State government has announced a series of activities to mark the yuletide season, dubbed “Onwa Dezemba.” According to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the state has planned a lineup of events to ensure citizens and returnees have a memorable celebration.

In a press release, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, outlined the activities scheduled for the “Onwa Dezemba” celebration. The festivities, which began on December 10 with the lighting of a Christmas tree at the Solution Fun City, will run until January 2026. The event aims to surpass other notable celebrations in Nigeria, such as the Calabar Carnival and Lagos Detty December.

For the Igbo people, the yuletide season is a time for tourism, stocktaking, and pilgrimage, with many returning home to join their families and communities. The “Onwa Dezemba” celebration is an initiative by Governor Soludo to brand and unify the festivities in Anambra State. The event features nine major events across Awka, Ekwulobia, and Onitsha, including the Solution FunCity Christmas Cantata, Masquerade Festivals, and a Christmas Day Children’s Carnival.

Other highlights of the celebration include the LOL Anambra event, Walk-for-Life, and an All-White Old School Night at Solution FunCity. The MegaFest 2.0, featuring Flavour na Abania and Friends, is also expected to be a major draw. The diverse towns of Anambra State have all keyed into the “Onwa Dezemba” phenomenon, ensuring a grand and memorable festive experience for the state’s citizens.

The “Onwa Dezemba” celebration is part of Governor Soludo’s vision to deliver a liveable and prosperous Anambra State. With its rich lineup of events, the festival is poised to become a major tourist attraction, showcasing the state’s culture and hospitality. As the festivities continue, residents and visitors can expect a fun-filled and entertaining experience, making “Onwa Dezemba” a memorable part of the yuletide season in Anambra State.
