The National Association of Ogun State Students has urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to honor his pledge of N2.5 million to the late Comrade Oriwayi Samuel, also known as Samoris, who was the top graduating student in the Civil Engineering Department at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic for the 2022/2023 academic session. Governor Abiodun had announced a cash prize of N2.5 million for each of the best graduating students from MAPOLY, covering the academic sessions from 2015/2016 to 2023/2024. This promise was made during the institution’s 15th Convocation Ceremony in June 2025, where he also unveiled a N2 billion infrastructure development plan for the polytechnic.
Samoris, who passed away on December 7, 2025, was laid to rest the following day, without receiving the promised cash prize. The student body made the appeal during its 2025 convention and election, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta. Comrade Oluwafemi Ajayi, the President-elect, commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to education in Ogun State, particularly in the area of student welfare. Ajayi emphasized the governor’s distinguished performance as the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum.
The student association is seeking the governor’s fulfillment of his promise to the late Samoris, requesting that the N2.5 million be remitted to his family.
