The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is urging the Federal Government to publish the details of a recent digital tax reform and revenue‑administration agreement signed between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Government of France. National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi warned that the pact could jeopardise Nigeria’s data security and expose sensitive economic information to foreign exploitation.

The ADC has examined expert opinions on the deal and is seeking clarification on the benefits it offers Nigeria. While the FIRS has highlighted potential advantages for the country, it has not disclosed what France stands to gain. This lack of transparency has raised questions about the government’s decision to enter the agreement without public disclosure or consultation with the National Assembly.

The party also worries about the broader implications, given France’s influence in West Africa and the region’s growing trend of loosening ties with the country. It asks why the Nigerian government would prioritise a foreign partnership over local capacities, especially in service provision. Nigeria’s local‑content policy aims to promote domestic industries and curb capital flight, but the ADC argues that the agreement may undermine these objectives.

Accordingly, the ADC is calling for the full publication of the agreement, a proper briefing of the National Assembly, and an independent assessment of its impact on data security, cybersecurity and national sovereignty. The party believes that making the details public is essential for transparency and accountability. The Federal Government’s decision to sign the pact has sparked concerns about the potential risks and benefits for Nigeria, underscoring the need for careful scrutiny of its economic and diplomatic engagements.
