IVD acquitted of wife’s death after 3 year battle

Nigerian celebrity auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, also known as IVD, has been discharged and acquitted of complicity in the death of his late wife, Bimbo Ogbonna. The acquittal was announced on December 15, 2025, following a three-year legal battle with Bimbo’s family, who had accused him of causing her death.

IVD’s case began in October 2022, when Bimbo died from injuries sustained in a fire incident at their Lagos residence, which was allegedly linked to domestic violence. In March 2023, IVD was arraigned by the Lagos State Government and charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was released on bail but rearrested on August 1, 2025, while traveling to Qatar ahead of his wedding to his new partner, Blessing CEO.

Blessing CEO, a self-styled relationship expert, announced the news of IVD’s acquittal on her Instagram page, encouraging her followers to leave toxic marriages or relationships. She stated that the Nigeria justice system still works and expressed pride in the country.

The case had sparked widespread attention and debate about domestic violence and the justice system in Nigeria. IVD’s acquittal marks the end of a long and complex legal process. The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions had rearrested IVD in August 2025, but the court has now cleared him of all charges.

IVD’s acquittal is significant, as it highlights the importance of the justice system in Nigeria and its ability to deliver verdicts based on evidence. The case also raises awareness about the need to address domestic violence and promote healthy relationships. As IVD begins to rebuild his life, his case serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges of the justice system in Nigeria.
