Attacks on Plateau communities genocide — Gov Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang is preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to his Senior Political Adviser, Mr. Istifanus Nwansat. In an interview with journalists in Abuja, Nwansat confirmed that arrangements for the governor’s switch are being finalized and an official announcement will follow soon.

Nwansat attributed the decision to the ongoing crisis and instability within the PDP, which he said has made the party an unreliable platform for political contests. He explained that Mutfwang’s move to the APC is motivated by a desire to align the state with the federal government led by President Bola Tinubu, thereby harmonizing state governance with the president’s political trajectory.

According to Nwansat, the governor’s choice follows a thorough assessment of available options, indicating that joining the APC carries the least risk. He emphasized that Mutfwang believes it is reasonable for a leader to align his state with the federal government, especially given President Tinubu’s efforts to address the country’s challenges. While Plateau State has been a PDP member, it has nonetheless recognized the president’s initiatives despite party differences.

The impending defection is expected to have significant implications for the state’s political landscape and its relationship with the federal government. The governor and his team are addressing remaining bottlenecks, and the move will be made public shortly. This development underscores the ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political parties as politicians navigate the complexities of governance and the electoral environment. With the governor’s decision to join the APC, Plateau State is poised to embark on a new political path that could shape its future and its interactions with the federal government.
