The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned celebrities, social media influencers, and content creators to stop using public roads as backdrops for online content. The caution follows a viral video in which popular TikTok personality Peller live‑streamed while driving, an act that resulted in a road accident. Corps Marshal Mallam Shehu Mohammed said that recording, streaming, or creating content while driving is a serious distraction that endangers passengers and other road users. This behavior violates traffic laws, and the FRSC has pledged to act against anyone involved in reckless driving, phone use while driving, or any form of distracted driving.
Mohammed has instructed the Lagos state sector commander to initiate legal proceedings against individuals who engage in such hazardous activities, in accordance with existing laws. He also called on actors’ guilds, entertainment groups, and influencer communities to educate their members on safe and responsible driving practices. Because celebrities and influencers have large followings—especially among young people—they bear a responsibility to promote safety rather than encourage dangerous behavior.
The FRSC will enforce traffic rules without bias, regardless of an individual’s social status, emphasizing that no online trend or popularity is worth risking a human life. The Corps reminded Nigerians that roads are public spaces designed to protect lives, not filming locations, and urged citizens to report dangerous driving incidents to help prevent accidents and improve road safety. This warning underscores the importance of responsible driving and the need for all road users to adhere to traffic laws, fostering a safer environment for everyone.
Targeting influencers and content creators is part of the FRSC’s broader effort to reduce road accidents and promote road safety in Nigeria. By leveraging their reach, the agency aims to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of responsible behavior on the roads. As the FRSC continues to enforce traffic laws and educate the public, all road users must prioritize safety and follow the rules of the road.
