The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has denied reports that its Maradun Local Government Area chairman, Alhaji Muttaka Dalhatu, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement issued on December 18, 2025, the party called the claim false and misleading, noting that it has never appointed Dalhatu as its chairman in Maradun.
According to the PDP, the Maradun chairmanship has been vacant since the former chairman, Hon. Adamu Kantu Gora, was appointed Secretary of the Maradun Local Government Council. The party challenged Dalhatu to produce a letter confirming his appointment, stating that no such document exists. It described the alleged defection as a “political stunt” designed to attract attention, possibly secure financial benefits, and impress former Zamfara State Governor and current Minister of Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle.
The PDP assured members and supporters that it remains united and strong in Maradun, with all recognized party structures intact and loyal to both the PDP and Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration. It urged the public to disregard the “fabricated story” circulated by the APC, emphasizing that it does not reflect the reality on the ground.
State chairman Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki led the response, characterizing the allegations as part of a broader effort by desperate politicians to destabilize the party. The denial comes amid a shifting political landscape in Zamfara State, where various parties and stakeholders are jockeying for position. The PDP’s statement aims to reassure its supporters and clarify the situation in Maradun, where the party claims to maintain a strong presence, and it is likely to be closely watched by observers and analysts monitoring the state’s evolving dynamics.
