NSCDC records 125 rape, vandalism cases in Jigawa

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command reported a notable number of prosecutions for various crimes in 2025. Commandant Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa disclosed that 125 cases—including rape, vandalism, theft, and murder—were prosecuted between January and December. These prosecutions form part of the Command’s broader effort to maintain law and order in the state.

The Commandant attributed the decline in crime rates compared with 2024 to the NSCDC’s proactive crime‑prevention approach. This strategy has led to fewer criminal cases, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Command’s methods. In addition, the NSCDC trained more than 9,000 private guards who secure schools and other public and private facilities, thereby enhancing safety in those areas.

The Command also reported thwarting over 30 attempted acts of vandalism against critical infrastructure such as power lines and water‑supply facilities. These interventions resulted in numerous recoveries, underscoring the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting public assets. The success of these operations was made possible through collaboration with the Jigawa State Government, other security agencies, and the support of the general public.

The achievements of the NSCDC in 2025 highlight the importance of synergy and cooperation among security agencies and the community in maintaining peace and stability. Looking ahead, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring sustainable peace and stability across Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole. With its proactive approach and collaborative efforts, the NSCDC plays a crucial role in enhancing security and reducing crime rates in the region.

The NSCDC is a paramilitary agency responsible for providing security, protecting critical infrastructure, and responding to emergencies and disasters. The efforts of the Jigawa State Command align with the broader national strategy to improve security and stability in Nigeria. As the country continues to address its security challenges, the NSCDC’s work in Jigawa serves as a model for effective crime prevention and community engagement.
