The Nigerian government has been urged to broaden its security operations against terrorists beyond the current areas of focus. Sokoto South Senator Aminu Tambuwal made this call during an interview on Arise Television, emphasizing the need for a more comprehensive approach to the country’s security challenges. He stressed that security collaboration should not be limited to a single location but should expand to cover all regions of concern across Nigeria.
Tambuwal cited states such as Borno, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna as examples of areas that require equal attention, given the prevalence of terrorist activities there. He also advocated for increased international cooperation, suggesting that the government seek support from the United States and other willing countries. He believes such collaboration is essential because terrorism is a transnational issue.
His appeal follows recent U.S. air operations in the Northwest region that targeted ISIS terrorists in Sokoto. The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) clarified that the strikes were carried out at the request of Nigerian authorities, and the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the country’s cooperation with the United States on the operation. This development underscores growing concern about the spread of terrorist activity in Nigeria and the need for a more coordinated, comprehensive response.
