I don't do road trips in Nigeria - Shaffy Bello

Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has expressed a strong reluctance to embark on road trips within Nigeria, citing the country’s inadequate infrastructure and security concerns. In a recent interview with VJ Adams, she explained that she prefers to travel by air or sea domestically and reserves road journeys for trips abroad.

Bello’s aversion to Nigerian road travel stems largely from the nation’s transportation infrastructure and safety issues. She noted that this preference has significantly impacted her social life, making it difficult to attend events or visit friends and family who live far away. According to Bello, she would only consider a road trip in Nigeria if she were visiting someone extremely close to her, and even then the distance must be reasonable—anything beyond the Lagos‑Ibadan corridor is too far.

As a result, friends and acquaintances are often hesitant to invite her to events that require lengthy road travel, aware of her preferences. Bello’s comments highlight the broader challenges faced by many Nigerians who rely on the country’s transportation network. The lack of efficient and safe road infrastructure can make domestic travel daunting, prompting many to opt for alternative modes or avoid traveling altogether.

As a public figure, Bello’s experiences resonate with numerous Nigerians confronting similar daily challenges. While efforts are underway to improve Nigeria’s transportation network, substantial work remains to address the concerns of citizens like Bello. As the country continues to develop, it is essential to prioritize the provision of safe and efficient transportation options for its people.
