Rivers Governor urges calm amid political tension

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged residents to remain calm and united amid rising political tension. In his New Year message, delivered during the crossover service at the Chapel of Everlasting Grace in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara assured the public that his administration would not be swayed by aggressive rhetoric. Instead, he emphasized the importance of prayers, patience, and peaceful engagement as guiding principles for leadership and governance in 2026.

Reflecting on the first two years of his administration, Governor Fubara described the period as challenging, with internal pressures affecting developmental progress. However, he credited the state’s resilience to divine intervention and the collective strength of its people, enabling Rivers State to navigate the turbulent phase without collapse. The governor expressed optimism that 2026 would bring stability, renewed direction, and accelerated development.

Governor Fubara called on residents to disregard political intimidation and distractions, citing the biblical story of Prophet Elijah and encouraging them to focus on their faith rather than being unsettled by threats. He reiterated his commitment to peace and political maturity, stressing that any political alignment or support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections would be based on dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect.

The governor praised the people of Rivers State for their loyalty and steadfastness, which has enabled his administration to remain focused and stable despite sustained pressure. Earlier, Government House Chaplain Pastor Ogan Barasin delivered a sermon titled “At Thy Word,” emphasizing the importance of total obedience to God in 2026. Pastor Barasin declared 2026 a year of visible and tangible miracles for those who trust and obey God, offering prayers and prophetic declarations for peace, progress, and lasting stability in Rivers State.

As Rivers State enters 2026, the governor’s message of hope and confidence is expected to reassure residents and promote a sense of unity and stability. With the state’s resilience and collective strength, Governor Fubara’s administration is poised to address the challenges ahead and drive development in the region. The emphasis on peaceful engagement and dialogue is likely to shape the state’s political landscape in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
