PDP: Defecting governors will regret - Party spokesman, Ememobong

The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, warned that governors who defected from the party will regret their decision when the 2027 election results are announced. He made the remark during an interview on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief,” stressing the importance of principle in politics.

Ememobong acknowledged that the PDP is aware of its internal problems, noting that these issues stem from human actions and that former party leaders share responsibility for addressing them. He argued that when defectors criticize the PDP, they are implicitly admitting their own role in creating the party’s challenges. According to Ememobong, these defectors are simply exporting the problems to their new parties, making their departure a matter of convenience rather than a genuine solution.

The spokesperson emphasized that the PDP is actively working to resolve its challenges, while the defectors attempt to distance themselves from the difficulties they helped generate. His comments come amid ongoing internal conflicts and high‑profile defections within the party, suggesting that the PDP remains confident in its ability to overcome obstacles and emerge stronger in the 2027 elections.

The party’s capacity to retain existing supporters and attract new voters will be crucial to its electoral success. Ememobong’s remarks also highlight the complexities of Nigerian party politics, where alliances and loyalty can shift rapidly. As the country approaches the 2027 elections, the PDP and other parties must navigate these challenges and present a united front to voters, as the outcome will depend on their ability to address internal issues and maintain cohesion.
