Terrorists attack Niger community killing 30 people

A recent terrorist attack in Niger State, Nigeria, has resulted in the deaths of 30 people and the abduction of several others, prompting former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to condemn the incident as a national shame. The attack, which occurred at the Kasuwan-Daji Market in the Domo community of Borgu Local Government Area, is the latest in a series of violent incidents to plague the country.

According to Obi, the continued cycle of violence and insecurity in Nigeria is unacceptable and requires a coordinated effort to address. In a statement, he noted that the country has witnessed a disturbing pattern of violence, with recent attacks occurring in Plateau, Kano, and Katsina States. On New Year’s Day, an attack in Katsina State’s Unguwar Naino community resulted in loss of life and injury, while bandits struck Bong village in Plateau State, leaving multiple people dead.

Obi emphasized that the protection of lives is the foremost responsibility of government and that the repeated failure to provide basic security for citizens is a national shame. He extended his condolences to the families of those affected, acknowledging that no words can ease their pain. The former presidential candidate stressed that the nation mourns with them and urged that the cycle of violence must be stopped.

The recent attacks highlight the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing insecurity in Nigeria. Obi called for an all-hands-on-deck approach, emphasizing the need for a coordinated and decisive effort to end the menace of insecurity. As the country continues to grapple with the challenges of terrorism and banditry, the need for effective security measures and a unified response has become increasingly pressing. The international community is watching as Nigeria struggles to contain the violence, and it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the growing insecurity.
