Digital Literacy Committee Inaugurated by Federal Government

The Federal Government of Nigeria has established a Joint Implementation Committee to oversee the execution of the National Conference on Digital Literacy and Emerging Skills. The committee’s primary objective is to drive the implementation of resolutions and outcomes from the conference, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The committee was inaugurated in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Office of the SGF and the Clergywealth Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Limited (CWMSCL).

According to Dr. Kana, the initiative supports the Federal Government’s Digital Transformation Agenda and the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy. The goal is to achieve at least 95% digital literacy by 2030, as outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. The committee, chaired by Dr. Kana, comprises representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovations and Digital Economy, Federal Ministry of Education, and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The committee’s terms of reference include planning and organizing the National Digital Literacy Conference, scheduled for January 28-29, 2026, and overseeing the training and certification of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging skills. The Clergywealth Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Limited (CWMSCL) aims to provide digital skills training for one million youths, along with certification, as part of its community development initiatives.

The establishment of the Joint Implementation Committee underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing digital literacy and promoting economic growth through the development of emerging skills. The committee’s efforts will contribute to the country’s digital transformation and help achieve the target of 95% digital literacy by 2030. With the committee’s oversight, the National Digital Literacy Conference and subsequent training programs are expected to play a significant role in empowering Nigerian youths with essential digital skills, ultimately driving the country’s economic development and growth.
