'Don’t be like baba Mohbad’ — Portable alleges father exploited him for money

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has leveled serious accusations against his father, alleging neglect, manipulation and financial exploitation. He claims his father consistently distances himself during challenging times—such as police investigations or marital disputes—while maintaining contact with his partners for personal gain. According to Portable, his father prefers to reach out to his “baby mamas” for money, a behavior that has destabilised his relationships.

Portable also alleges that his father mismanaged funds earmarked for a building project, inflating the prices of building materials and taking advantage of his trust. He says his father was absent when he faced police issues or needed help with his family, only showing interest after Portable became famous and began earning money. The singer further accuses his father of scamming him on the purchase of blocks and roofing materials by quoting inflated prices.

In response, Portable emphasized that he will protect his assets and children from alleged exploitation, stating that his father will not inherit his wealth or possessions. He praised his aunt, Alhaja, who raised him after his mother’s death and has supported him since childhood, standing by him during difficult moments.

These allegations highlight the complexities of family relationships and the challenges faced by public figures. As a popular figure in the Nigerian music industry, Portable’s personal life has attracted scrutiny, and his recent outburst against his father has sparked widespread attention. The situation serves as a reminder of the importance of family support and the need for individuals to prioritise their well‑being and relationships. With the accusations now public, it remains to be seen how the matter will unfold and what steps Portable will take to address his concerns.
