Trump threatens to seize Greenland from Denmark by force if necessary

US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States will take certain measures regarding Greenland, whether its government agrees or not. The president warned that if Washington does not act, Russia or China may attempt to gain control of the strategic North Atlantic island. Trump expressed his desire to make a deal, but also mentioned that the US is prepared to take alternative measures if necessary.

Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with a population of less than 57,000 people. The US already has a military presence on the island, which is larger than Mexico. Trump has emphasized the importance of Greenland to Arctic security and has sought to establish outright control over the territory.

The issue of US control over Greenland has been a point of tension between the US and European NATO members, including Denmark. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that any US military action against another NATO country would have severe consequences. European leaders have also stressed that Greenland’s future should be determined by its people.

According to recent reports, the Trump administration is considering a plan to offer financial incentives to Greenlanders in exchange for their support of US control. The proposed plan could involve paying each resident between $10,000 and $100,000. Denmark currently provides Greenland with an annual block grant of nearly $11,200 per person to cover essential costs.

Polls have shown that the majority of Greenlanders are opposed to becoming part of the US. A recent survey found that about 85% of respondents rejected the idea of joining the US, while only around 6% expressed support. The US has been seeking to acquire Greenland since Trump’s first term, and the issue remains a contentious one in international relations. The US and Denmark will likely continue to negotiate and discuss the future of Greenland, with the island’s strategic location and natural resources making it a crucial point of interest for major world powers.
