Kano Governor’s Alleged Defection Sparks Tight Security

Tight security has been deployed at the Kano State Government House amidst speculation that Governor Abba Yusuf may defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The increased security presence is evident at the main entrance, where personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) are stationed at strategic locations. Security checks have also been intensified, with access restricted to those who can provide strict identification.

The heightened security measures coincide with growing speculation about a disagreement between Governor Yusuf and his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a national leader of the NNPP. Kwankwaso has reportedly opposed Yusuf’s alleged plan to defect to the APC, warning that such a move would destabilize the NNPP and undermine the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

The crisis has exposed cracks in the longstanding alliance between the two leaders and has spread to the NNPP. In a statement, the party said it is aware of the unfolding situation and does not support any defection to the APC. The statement, issued by NNPP Kano State Chairman, Hashim Dungurawa, emphasized that the party, both at the state and national levels, does not approve of the developments. The party’s national leader, Senator Kwankwaso, and other leaders have also made it clear that they do not support the alleged defection plan.

The situation has significant implications for the political landscape in Kano State and the NNPP as a whole. The party’s stance on the matter is clear, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold. The NNPP’s opposition to the alleged defection plan is a testament to the party’s commitment to its principles and values. As the situation continues to develop, it is likely that there will be further statements and actions from the party and its leaders.
