Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi threatens legal action over romance claims

Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has threatened to take legal action against Psalm Okpe, founder of Fresh Oil Ministry International Church, over claims of a romantic relationship. The dispute arose from a leaked audio recording in which Okpe and another cleric made explicit remarks about alleged past relationships with Anunobi and another church leader.

The recording, which has sparked public outrage, also included unverified allegations of homosexuality against a male pastor. Okpe, who had previously ordained Anunobi into ministry, released a public apology, describing the recording as “disturbing” and expressing embarrassment over the “vulgar words” used.

Anunobi, however, has rejected Okpe’s claims, describing him as a “monumental global shame” and stating that the allegations are false and have caused her emotional trauma. The 60-year-old preacher maintained that she has lived a celibate life since her ordination nearly 14 years ago, despite being in relationships during that period.

In a detailed statement, Anunobi explained that she has been celibate and has kept herself for the man who will deserve her “new virginity.” She clarified that she has been in courtship and engaged several times but emphasized that none of her partners can claim to have had a sexual relationship with her.

Anunobi has commenced legal proceedings against Okpe, submitting petitions to both Nigerian and US authorities for defamation and long-standing threats to her ministry. Her lawyers have been instructed to write a petition to the Nigerian police force and the US Security and Immigration Department against Okpe, citing defamatory accusations.

The actress and evangelist emphasized that she will not allow the allegations to be swept under the carpet, as they have caused her emotional trauma and are a testament to Okpe’s threats to destroy her ministry. The legal action is aimed at forcing Okpe to prove his claims of a five-year and six-month romantic relationship with Anunobi. The case highlights the importance of addressing defamation and protecting individuals’ reputations, particularly in the public eye.
