Simi opens up on health challenges that delayed song release

Nigerian singer-songwriter Simisola Kosoko, known professionally as Simi, has disclosed the reasons behind the delayed release of her song “Where You Dey” featuring Chike. In a statement, Simi explained that she had initially planned to release the track last year, following a snippet that generated significant excitement among fans. However, she faced severe physical challenges during that period, including illness, weakness, and nausea, which hindered her ability to work on the song.

Despite her poor health, Simi pushed herself to participate in the snippet video shoot, showcasing her professionalism and dedication to her craft. She also praised Chike, her collaborator on the song, describing him as a talented artist with a unique voice. Simi revealed that she had long admired Chike’s work and knew he would be the perfect fit for the song.

The singer-songwriter noted that Chike traveled to her studio immediately after returning to town, unaware of her pregnancy and physical struggles at the time. Simi reflected on the studio sessions, expressing surprise at the energy she displayed in the recorded video, given her condition. She also handled the mixing and mastering of the song herself, despite her dislike for the latter, due to the circumstances surrounding the project.

Simi expressed disappointment over missing the intended release deadline, particularly since fans had already fallen in love with the song and were eagerly awaiting its official release. Her health issues left her without the strength to promote the record properly or even recall parts of the content creation process. The release of “Where You Dey” also serves as a response to critics who have speculated that Simi had given up her career after getting married.

The song’s release is significant, as it marks Simi’s return to the music scene after a period of speculation about her career. With the song now out, fans can finally enjoy the highly anticipated collaboration between Simi and Chike. The release also highlights Simi’s resilience and dedication to her craft, despite facing personal and health challenges. As the music industry continues to evolve, Simi’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance and passion in overcoming obstacles to achieve success.
