APC Alleges Ex-Governor Tambuwal Neglected Home Development

APC Accuses Former Governor Tambuwal of Neglecting His Political Base

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State, has accused former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of failing to develop his home community during his tenure. The allegation was presented during a stakeholders’ meeting in Tambuwal, where the party’s local government chairman, Isa Sadiq Achida, claimed the ex-governor delivered no meaningful projects to the area while in office.

Achida also criticised Tambuwal’s reported involvement in a new political coalition, dismissing it as a mere regrouping of established figures rather than a genuine alternative. He urged local residents, especially young people, to support the APC’s continuity instead of aligning with what he termed “recycled political interests.”

The meeting also served as a platform for the APC to formally receive several defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including three former councillors. Representing the Tambuwal Local Government Chairman, Council Leader Nasiru Jabo affirmed the local leadership’s commitment to strengthening the party’s position for future elections.

In separate remarks, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Ala, announced that the Sokoto State Government had approved the establishment of three new secondary schools in Tambuwal Local Government Area. The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Dikko, noted that several indigenes from Tambuwal had already been appointed to political offices under the current administration. He denied any personal political ambition, stating he would adhere to his party’s decisions.

Efforts to obtain a response from former Governor Tambuwal were unsuccessful at the time of publication. The PDP, through its spokesperson Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, indicated the party would issue a formal response “at an appropriate time.”

The public accusation underscores the intensifying political rivalry in Sokoto State as parties prepare for future electoral contests. It highlights the APC’s strategy to consolidate support in key localities by framing opponents, including a former two-term governor and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, as having neglected their own constituencies. The development announcements by state officials appear aimed at countering narratives of neglect by showcasing ongoing state-backed projects in the region. The pending PDP response is expected to shape the ensuing political discourse.
