Funke Akindele Freed Nigerian Tiktoker Peller from Prison

Popular Nigerian social media personality Peller has publicly credited actress Funke Akindele with assisting in his release from prison following his arrest late last year. The disclosure was made during a public interaction with Akindele at the premiere of her film ‘Love Notes’ in Lagos.

Peller, a well-known TikTok streamer, was arrested in December 2025 by operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos State. The FRSC had earlier announced that its action followed an investigation into a deliberate road accident involving the influencer, for which he was charged with reckless driving and prosecuted. He subsequently served a period of incarceration.

At the movie premiere, while exchanging greetings with Akindele, Peller directly acknowledged her intervention. He stated, “she was the one who helped me when I was in prison. She was the one who helped my life.” His comments, captured by reporters from the Media Talk Africa, highlight the actress’s role in facilitating his freedom after the legal incident.

Funke Akindele, a veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker, has not issued a public statement regarding Peller’s claim. The specific nature of the assistance rendered—whether legal, financial, or through personal advocacy—remains unconfirmed.

This incident underscores the intersection of Nigeria’s digital influencer culture with traditional celebrity influence and the criminal justice system. Peller’s arrest had previously drawn public attention, with the FRSC emphasizing zero tolerance for traffic law violations, particularly those involving deliberate endangerment. His quick release and subsequent public attribution of aid to a prominent film star may spark discussion about equity and access within the legal process.

The story is significant as it provides rare, first-hand testimony from a social media figure about navigating a high-profile legal battle with the support of an established industry colleague. The next steps would likely involve either confirmation from Akindele’s camp or clarification from legal authorities on the circumstances that led to Peller’s early release from custody after his prosecution.
