PDP Digital Membership Drive Starts March 2 for 2026 Electoral Act

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will commence a nationwide digital membership registration exercise on Monday, March 2, across all wards in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The three-week initiative, announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, aims to create a comprehensive electronic database of its members in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended).

The registration drive is a direct response to updated national electoral regulations that mandate all registered political parties to maintain and submit a digital membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This legislative requirement is part of broader reforms to enhance transparency, accuracy, and accountability in the political party system ahead of future election cycles.

The process will be conducted daily at all PDP ward offices, chapters, and state secretariats, with the exception of Sundays, throughout the registration period. For individuals with special circumstances that prevent them from registering at these locations, arrangements will be made at the party’s national secretariat. A special oversight committee, chaired by the National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Daka Shan, has been constituted to supervise the entire exercise and address any complaints that may arise.

Ememobong urged both existing members and the general public to visit their nearest PDP ward office to complete the digital registration. He emphasized that the compilation of an accurate, verifiable digital register is critical for the party’s internal democracy and its readiness to meet statutory obligations.

The PDP leadership has provided dedicated channels for inquiries. Questions and requests for information can be directed to a toll-free line, 08035555800, or via email to info@iampdp.org.

This nationwide digitalization of membership records represents a significant step for one of Nigeria’s major political parties in aligning its operational internal processes with contemporary legal standards. For INEC, the submission of standardized digital registers from all parties will streamline data management and strengthen the commission’s capacity to monitor party activities. The successful completion of this exercise by the PDP is expected to set a practical benchmark for compliance within the political landscape, reinforcing the institutionalization of digital tools in Nigeria’s electoral framework. The outcome will likely influence how parties engage members, plan campaigns, and demonstrate organizational capacity to the electorate and regulatory bodies.
