Osun State Police Assure Security for Eid-el-Fitr Celebrations

The Osun State Police Command has announced comprehensive security measures to ensure peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebrations across the state, pledging adequate deployment of personnel to safeguard lives and property during the festive period.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Gotan detailed that the command has finalised a strategic security plan covering all phases of the festival. The plan includes the strategic deployment of officers and men to critical locations such as mosques, prayer grounds, markets, and other public centres. This proactive approach aims to deter potential disruptions and guarantee public safety for residents and visitors alike.

The police statement directly assured both residents and travellers of the command’s readiness. “The Command hereby assures the good people of Osun State and all travellers of its readiness and preparedness to guarantee safety in all major and strategic locations,” the statement read, framing the operation as a fulfilment of the constitutional duty to maintain law and order.

Beyond physical deployments, the command issued several public appeals to foster a secure environment. Parents and guardians were urged to monitor the conduct of children and wards, discouraging any misconduct or unlawful assemblies. Religious and community leaders received a specific appeal to continue promoting messages of harmony, mutual respect, and lawful behaviour beyond the Ramadan period, emphasizing social cohesion.

Road users were reminded to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents, a common concern during festive periods marked by increased travel. The public was also encouraged to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police division or through official emergency channels.

The police concluded by extending wishes for a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration to all Muslim faithful and visitors. The announcement comes as communities across Nigeria prepare for Eid-el-Fitr, a major religious and social event that typically involves large gatherings, prayers, and visits, necessitating heightened security awareness. The Osun State Police Command’s pre-emptive measures reflect a standard practice of bolstering security during nationally significant celebrations to mitigate risks and ensure public order.
