Malami Confident Justice Prevails Amid Legal Battles

Former Nigerian Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has publicly affirmed his trust in the eventual triumph of truth and justice, even as he faces multiple ongoing legal battles. His statement, released through his media aide Mohammed Bello Doka, also thanked a broad coalition of supporters, including prominent political figures across party lines.

Malami specifically expressed gratitude to family, friends, and political associates, naming former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and former Anambra Governor Peter Obi. He stated that this widespread support reinforced his belief in due process and the country’s justice system.

He characterized the current period as difficult, citing what he called “media trials, sensational narratives, and prejudgment.” According to the statement, the prayers and solidarity from Nigerians have bolstered his resolve amidst these challenges.

Beyond his personal situation, Malami used the platform to advocate for a national recommitment to the rule of law. He urged citizens to actively participate in defending justice, strengthening state institutions, and promoting accountability. He framed this as a collective national imperative, stating, “The struggle for justice, accountability, and national redemption is only just beginning,” and called for unified effort to uphold integrity and democratic values.

Malami served as Attorney-General from 2015 to 2023 under President Muhammadu Buhari. His remarks directly address the suite of legal proceedings initiated since his departure, which include corruption-related charges and other allegations. By publicly thanking figures from opposing political factions and calling for institutional strength, his statement seeks to recast the legal challenges as a broader test for Nigeria’s judicial and democratic frameworks. The significance of his words lies in his former role as the nation’s chief law officer, lending weight to his appeals for patient confidence in the system he once oversaw.
