Popular Nigerian streamer and content creator Peller has alleged that many Nigerian music artists show preferential treatment to foreign media over local influencers and platforms, only seeking domestic support when their international profile wanes.
Peller made the comments during a recent livestream from Enugu, drawing on his experiences both following and collaborating with musicians in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. He claimed that a significant number of artists actively pursue interviews and collaborations with international influencers and media outlets but disregard local streamers and content creators during their peak popularity.
“Nigerian musicians don’t value local streamers. They will be engaging with Americans, but when their fame starts to decline, that’s when they begin seeking out Nigerian streamers everywhere,” Peller stated. He added that he had observed this pattern firsthand, noting, “Very few Nigerian musicians are genuinely kind. Davido, Olamide, and Tiwa Savage are among those few exceptions.”
The streamer urged Nigerian entertainers, particularly musicians, to maintain consistent support for domestic media and influencer ecosystems, regardless of their success abroad. He framed this as a necessary step for fostering a sustainable local creative community.
Peller’s remarks touch on a broader dynamic within Nigeria’s music industry, which has seen artists achieve substantial global reach in recent years. While international collaborations and global streaming platforms are often celebrated as markers of success, his critique suggests a perceived gap in reciprocal engagement with the foundational local audience and media that supported artists early in their careers.
The comments have sparked discussion on social media about artist responsibility and the relationship between Nigeria’s music stars and the domestic content creation economy. Peller’s position as a popular streamer lends his perspective weight within Nigeria’s digital entertainment space, where influencer partnerships are a key promotional tool.
His appeal highlights an ongoing debate about cultural reciprocity in a rapidly globalizing industry. By encouraging top-tier artists to prioritize local platforms consistently, Peller is advocating for a model of stardom that maintains strong domestic ties alongside international ambition. The conversation underscores the importance of local media ecosystems in sustaining long-term artistic relevance and community support.
