Iyabo Ojo threatens suit over Baba Ijesha’s false kid claims

Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has threatened fresh legal action against her colleague, actor Baba Ijesha, following his recent televised comments regarding her children. The warning comes after Baba Ijesha, in a podcast interview, stated that Iyabo Ojo once entrusted her children to his care, a claim she has swiftly rejected as false.

The dispute stems from an interview Baba Ijesha gave on the ‘Talk to B’ podcast, hosted by actress Biola Adebayo, which was published on Sunday. During the conversation, Baba Ijesha addressed the sexual assault allegation made against him in 2021 by comedienne Princess. He denied the pedophilia accusation while referencing Iyabo Ojo, noting her previous public stance against him. It was at this point he mentioned that Iyabo had at one time left her children in his supervision.

Iyabo Ojo, who was a vocal critic during Baba Ijesha’s 2021 trial, responded decisively on her Instagram story. She directly contradicted his assertion about her children and issued a stern caution. “The court found you guilty based on evidence, so please don’t drag my children into this else I would direct my counsel to serve you appropriate papers,” her post read. She characterised his claim as entirely untrue and warned him against further public statements that involve her family.

This incident reopens a highly publicised chapter in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. In 2021, Baba Ijesha faced criminal charges and was subsequently convicted of indecent treatment of a child related to the allegation raised by Princess. The case drew widespread media attention and divided public opinion, with Iyabo Ojo emerging as one of his most prominent detractors throughout the legal process.

Iyabo Ojo’s threat of new litigation signifies a sharp escalation in their long-standing public conflict. Her statement indicates a readiness to pursue defamation or related legal remedies to protect her children’s privacy and her own reputation. The next step hinges on whether her legal team will formally initiate proceedings, potentially adding a new civil lawsuit to the actor’s existing criminal record.

The development underscores the ongoing legal and personal tensions between the two figures. It also highlights the persistent repercussions of the 2021 case, demonstrating how matters once adjudicated in court can continue to generate public disputes and the potential for additional legal challenges.
