Students Burn Tyres, Block Roads at Kwara Poly Over EFCC

Students Protest EFCC Operation Near Kwara Polytechnic, Disrupting Traffic

Students at the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, Nigeria, staged a protest on [Date, if available, otherwise use “recently”] following an operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a nearby village. The demonstration saw students set tires ablaze and block key roads, temporarily halting vehicular and pedestrian movement in the area.

The unrest was triggered by the presence of EFCC operatives conducting official duties in Agbede Village, located adjacent to the polytechnic campus. The action by the anti-corruption agency prompted a reaction from some students, leading to the road blockades.

In a statement, the polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Halimat Garba, moved to reassure the public that calm had been fully restored. She clarified that the EFCC operation occurred off-campus in Agbede Village and emphasized that no students were arrested during the incident.

Normal academic activities resumed promptly. Students scheduled for examinations were able to sit for their papers, and the examination process continued without further interruption. The Old Jebba Road, which was obstructed during the protest, is now clear and safe for travel, the institution confirmed.

The polytechnic management commended the swift and professional response of both the security agencies and its own internal security team. Ms. Garba also expressed appreciation for the majority of students who remained peaceful and law-abiding during the disturbance.

The institution reiterated its commitment to the safety, welfare, and academic progress of all students and staff. Authorities urge commuters and the general public to go about their normal activities without fear, as the campus and surrounding roads are secure. The incident highlights the occasional spillover of law enforcement actions in neighbouring communities onto institutional environments, though the polytechnic has affirmed that its core operations remain undisturbed.
