Nigerian music star Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has publicly challenged fellow artist Ayodeji Balogun, popularly called Wizkid, to a physical confrontation. The escalation follows allegations that Burna Boy and a group of ten individuals assaulted DJ Tunez, Wizkid’s official disc jockey, at a Lagos nightclub on Monday night. The reported attack was allegedly prompted by DJ Tunez’s refusal to play Burna Boy’s music during his set.
In a widely circulated video, Burna Boy addressed the controversy, asserting that he was the sole person who physically engaged with DJ Tunez. He dismissed Wizkid’s response on social media as ineffective, claiming that Wizkid’s influence is limited to online platforms while he himself operates in “real life.” “Wizkid come go dey tweet. Na internet their own power dey. We na real life our own power dey,” Burna Boy stated in Pidgin English. He further remarked that he had expected DJ Tunez to involve Wizkid directly, either through personal intervention or by sending representatives, but instead, Wizkid resorted to online criticism.
The incident has drawn significant attention within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, highlighting tensions between two of the country’s most prominent Afrobeats artists. While Burna Boy’s remarks suggest a readiness for physical confrontation, Wizkid has yet to issue a direct response to the challenge. The altercation underscores the competitive dynamics and occasional conflicts that can arise among top-tier musicians in Nigeria’s vibrant music scene.
