Abia Govt Condemns Soldier Shooting Death of Truck Driver

Abia State government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Kelechi Ejiofor, a truck driver who died after being shot by a soldier at Uratta Timber Market in Aba. According to reports, Ejiofor succumbed to his injuries on Monday while receiving treatment at a hospital in Aba.

In a statement signed by Commissioner for Information Okey Kanu, the state government confirmed it is actively engaging with the military high command to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. “We wish to assure the family of the deceased and the general public that justice will not only be pursued but will be seen to be done,” the statement read.

The government emphasized that any officer found culpable will face the full weight of disciplinary and legal consequences. It also urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and peaceful as efforts intensify to uncover the facts of the incident.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the rule of law, and the fundamental rights of every citizen, the Abia State government called for restraint and cooperation from the public during the ongoing investigation.
