I Go Save reacts to Angel Smith’s short-lived same-sex marriage scandal

Nigerian comedian I Go Save has commented on the marital crisis involving former Big Brother Naija contestant Angel Smith, whose same-sex marriage has ended in controversy just days after the ceremony.

According to reports, Angel Smith married Tumininu in the United States less than two weeks ago. The union quickly unraveled when Tumininu accused Angel of infidelity, alleging she had been unfaithful with another woman met on a dating app. The allegations sparked widespread public debate, with some Nigerians directing criticism toward Angel’s mother for allowing her daughter to enter into a same-sex marriage.

Taking to his Instagram story, I Go Save offered a tongue-in-cheek reflection on the situation, applauding men for their patience in marriage. “Men are really trying when it comes to marriage matters!” he wrote. “A woman got married to another woman, and the marriage didn’t even last 70 hours. She couldn’t handle what the other woman was doing.”

The comedian’s remarks have drawn mixed reactions online, with some interpreting his comments as a humorous take on the brief union, while others view them as reinforcing gender stereotypes. The controversy surrounding Angel’s marriage continues to generate discussion on social media, highlighting ongoing debates about LGBTQ+ relationships in Nigeria, where same-sex unions remain illegal and socially contentious.

Angel Smith, who gained fame through her appearance on Big Brother Naija, has not publicly responded to the allegations or the ensuing backlash. The incident underscores the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Nigeria, where societal and legal pressures often lead to intense scrutiny and criticism.
