The Rivers State Police Command has deployed security personnel to protect Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres throughout the state in preparation for the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This initiative is part of a broader directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at ensuring the safety and integrity of the examination process.
In a statement issued on Friday in Port Harcourt, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, announced that Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju has ordered the deployment of officers, operational assets, and intelligence resources to all approved examination centres. This initiative is designed to prevent security breaches, examination malpractice, and disorder during the UTME period. Personnel have been instructed to maintain professionalism, be courteous, and respond decisively to any threats to the examination’s integrity.
Additionally, security personnel have been mandated to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to secure not only the examination venues but also the surrounding areas and access routes. Enhanced patrols, intelligence gathering, and traffic control measures have been implemented around the centres to ensure smooth and secure operations. Agabe quoted the commissioner as urging candidates, parents, and guardians to cooperate with security personnel and adhere strictly to examination guidelines.
Commissioner Adepoju warned that any individual or group attempting to undermine the integrity of the examination will face legal consequences. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Rivers State, advising residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. This deployment underscores the authorities’ determination to create a safe and credible examination environment for all candidates.
