Nigerian Afrobeats artist Michael Adebayo, professionally known as Ruger, has revealed that he missed a significant career opportunity after failing to respond to a direct message from Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele. In an interview with VJ Adams, Ruger disclosed that Akindele had reached out to him via social media several years ago to invite him to feature in one of her blockbuster productions, but he only discovered the message long after the chance had passed.
Ruger explained that he had initially intended to message Akindele to thank her for frequently sharing his music online. However, upon checking her profile, he noticed her earlier attempt to contact him regarding a potential acting role. The singer admitted that realising the missed opportunity left him deeply disappointed, and the regret still lingers.
“I am interested in acting and wouldn’t mind going into the movie industry,” Ruger said. “I once missed a DM from Funke Akindele for a movie role. I didn’t even see it on time. That one still pains me.”
Despite his enthusiasm for acting, Ruger acknowledged that the process might be challenging for him, particularly due to his discomfort with lengthy filming schedules. Nonetheless, he expressed a willingness to embrace the craft if the role were compelling enough.
“I think acting would be difficult for me because I don’t like shooting. But I would get into character still. If my character is interesting, yeah,” he added.
The revelation has sparked discussions among fans and industry observers about the importance of timely communication and responsiveness in the entertainment sector, where opportunities can be fleeting.
