Rivers APC backs Governor Fubara for 2027 election

Rivers State APC stakeholders endorse Governor Siminalayi Fubara for 2027 election

A delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Rivers State announced on Friday that they have purchased expression of interest and nomination forms for incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 governorship poll. The delegation was led by House of Representatives member Awaji‑Inombek Abiante, who said the decision reflects a collective judgment that Fubara’s continued leadership serves the interests of the state’s electorate.

Abiante explained that the move was taken by party members across Rivers State “in the overall interest of Rivers people.” He emphasized that the endorsement is grounded in public sentiment rather than personal gain or financial capacity. “It is not about how deep your pocket is. It is about what the people feel. And the people of Rivers State have made their position clear: they want continuity,” he told reporters.

The lawmaker cited a series of infrastructure projects and socioeconomic initiatives as evidence of the governor’s performance. Notable achievements include the rapid improvement of road access in riverine communities such as Andoni, which previously faced chronic isolation. According to Abiante, the new connectivity “positions [these] communities to contribute meaningfully to the blue economy.” He also referenced the rehabilitation of the State Secretariat and other public facilities, describing them as indicators of enhanced citizen welfare under the current administration.

Beyond physical development, Abiante praised Fubara’s leadership style, characterising him as “humble and people‑oriented.” He argued that the governor’s responsiveness to local concerns distinguishes his tenure and aligns with the expectations of voters.

The endorsement arrives as the APC prepares for the 2027 electoral cycle, with parties nationwide mobilising support ahead of the scheduled elections. Stakeholders in Rivers State plan to continue campaigning for the governor’s re‑election, citing the continuity of ongoing projects and the perceived benefits of stable governance as central themes.

If the endorsement translates into broader party backing, Fubara could become the APC’s formal candidate for the 2027 governorship contest, positioning him against opposition figures in a race that will likely focus on infrastructure development, economic diversification, and governance continuity in the oil‑rich Niger Delta region.
