Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation FANSAN YAMMA neutralised three armed militants and recovered a sizeable cache of weapons and ammunition during a fighting patrol in Zamfara State, according to an operational report released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
The patrol took place in the Birnin Magaji Local Government Area and covered the villages of Birnin Tsaba, Tsanu and Dumburum. Contact with the militants was made in Dumburum, where the engagement resulted in the elimination of three terrorists. No soldiers were injured in the operation.
Security forces recovered the following items: one AK‑47 rifle, one SK‑21 A1 machine gun, a locally fabricated handgun, six AK‑47 magazines and one FN‑type rifle magazine. Ammunition seized included 123 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 179 rounds of 12.7 × 108 mm linked ammunition and 269 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition.
The report underscored that the general security situation in the area remains under control, with the army maintaining a dominant presence. Authorities have not provided further details on the identities of the neutralised individuals or the intended target of the weapons cache.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, launched earlier this year, aims to curb insurgent activities and banditry in northern Nigeria. The recent success adds to a series of engagements reported by the army in the region, reflecting ongoing efforts to stabilize Zamfara and surrounding states.
The Nigerian Ministry of Defence has not announced any follow‑up actions, but the recovery of a substantial arsenal is expected to hinder the operational capabilities of hostile groups operating in the area.
