Burna Boy joins Shakira on official 2026 FIFA World Cup song “Dai Dai”

Nigerian superstar Burna Boy will collaborate with Colombian pop legend Shakira on “Dai Dai,” the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The track, which will be released on Thursday, 14 May, marks the second consecutive World Cup anthem to feature a Nigerian artist. In 2022, fellow Nigerian singer Davido appeared on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together),” the official song for that tournament.

Shakira announced the partnership on her social‑media platforms, posting a video from Brazil’s iconic Maracanã Stadium. “From Maracanã Stadium, here is ‘Dai Dai,’ the @FIFAWorldCup Official Song 2026. Coming 5/14. We’re ready! ⚽️🐺 @burnaboy,” she wrote.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, with matches scheduled from 11 June to 19 July. The tri‑nation format is the first of its kind in World Cup history, expanding the tournament to 48 teams and increasing the number of venues across North America.

“Dai Dai” blends Shakira’s signature pop‑reggaeton style with Burna Boy’s Afro‑fusion sensibilities, reflecting the multinational nature of the event. Both artists have previously performed at major sporting ceremonies; Shakira headlined the 2010 World Cup closing ceremony in South Africa, while Burna Boy performed at the 2021 African Nations Cup final.

The collaboration underscores FIFA’s growing emphasis on global musical representation. By selecting artists from different continents, the organization aims to reach a broader audience and highlight the cultural diversity of the host nations. The song’s release ahead of the tournament’s opening match is expected to generate additional hype and promote ticket sales across the three host countries.

Industry observers note that the partnership may also boost streaming numbers for both performers, especially as the World Cup’s global viewership typically exceeds one billion. The track will be available on major digital platforms, with a lyric video slated for release on FIFA’s official YouTube channel.

Fans can anticipate live performances of “Dai Dai” during the opening ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia, and potentially at other key events throughout the competition. The collaboration adds another milestone to the growing presence of African artists on the world’s biggest sporting stage, reinforcing music’s role in uniting diverse cultures during the premier international football tournament.
