Former BBNaija winner Ilebaye has appealed publicly for assistance after alleging domestic violence and physical assault.
The reality star appeared on an Instagram Live stream on Friday night with visible facial swelling, pleading for help. In the broadcast, a man—identified by viewers as her father—was seen striking her repeatedly. Ilebaye’s cries were captured in the video, in which she said, “Nigerians help me, I need to go. I need to leave this house, I’m being locked up. I’m tired of assault, please come and help me.”
The footage quickly spread online, prompting concern from fellow BBNaija contestant Tacha. In an Instagram story, Tacha urged anyone in Abuja to accompany police to Ilebaye’s residence, stating, “I really just want to know who is in Abuja right now that can take the police to Ilebaye’s house. Ilebaye’s face has been ruined. I don’t even know who did it but from the video I have seen they are really brutal.”
Ilebaye, whose real name is Ijeoma Dabalola, rose to fame after winning the 2023 season of Big Brother Naija. Since her victory, she has been active on social media, promoting various brands and engaging with fans. The alleged assault marks a stark departure from her public persona and has ignited a broader discussion about domestic abuse in Nigeria.
Domestic violence remains a pervasive issue in the country. According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), one in three Nigerian women experiences some form of intimate partner violence. Advocacy groups have called for stronger legal enforcement and public awareness campaigns to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
Law enforcement officials have not yet commented on the incident, and no formal police report has been confirmed. The video, however, has spurred a wave of online petitions demanding immediate action and protective measures for Ilebaye. Human rights organizations have urged authorities to investigate promptly and ensure the safety of the alleged victim.
The case underscores the challenges faced by public figures who experience private abuse, highlighting the need for effective support systems and rapid response mechanisms. As the story develops, stakeholders—including law enforcement, advocacy groups, and the entertainment industry—are monitoring the situation closely, with the hope that appropriate legal steps will be taken to address the alleged assault and prevent further harm.
