NELFUND extends loan application deadline for BUK students — Daily Nigerian

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced an extension of the application period for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the 2025/2026 academic session. The university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, signed a special bulletin on behalf of the Registrar and presented it to journalists in Kano on Saturday.

The extension allows eligible students to submit applications through the NELFUND portal from 8 May to 29 May 2025, following a request from university management. Garba emphasized that this window is the final opportunity for students who have already completed the screening process to apply for both institutional charges and upkeep.

Applicants are required to visit the official portal at http://portal.nelf.gov.ng to begin and complete their submissions. Garba urged strict adherence to the application procedures, stressing that all required documents must be uploaded correctly to avoid delays or disqualification. He noted that applications for institutional charges and upkeep must be submitted together; separate submissions may not be processed.

The director also cautioned against using micro‑finance bank wallet accounts such as Opay and Moniepoint for the application. Students should ensure that their email addresses are accurate and actively monitored, as all communications and status updates will be sent there. Passwords must be securely stored, as they will be needed to log in and track application progress.

Garba’s bulletin underscores the importance of meeting the deadline, encouraging all eligible students to take advantage of the extended period and complete their applications promptly.

The NELFUND program, a federal initiative aimed at supporting higher‑education financing, expects to receive a significant number of applications from BUK students during this final window. Successful applicants will receive loan disbursements to cover tuition and related academic costs for the upcoming academic year.
