Portable, the Nigerian street‑pop artist, survived a vehicle accident on Thursday night in Ogun State while traveling to his newborn son’s naming ceremony.

According to the singer’s Instagram story, the incident occurred after the car’s brakes failed as he approached the ceremony venue. Portable steered the vehicle into a roadside ditch to avoid a head‑on collision with another car, escaping injury.

In the video, the artist thanked “my fans” and praised God for his safety, adding that his entourage arrived at the scene shortly after. He noted that, had the brake failure happened while a trailer was passing, the outcome could have been worse.

Portable also confirmed that preparations for the naming ceremony were already underway. He said he had purchased two cows for the traditional celebration and distributed free ankara “aso ebi” outfits to guests. The ceremony follows the birth of his son with wife Bewaji, which took place on May 1, 2026, the same day Portable fought fellow entertainer Carter Efe in a boxing match.

The accident did not disrupt the naming event, and organizers proceeded with the festivities as planned. No further injuries or property damage were reported.

The incident highlights the risks associated with vehicle maintenance and road safety in Nigeria, prompting calls from local officials for stricter enforcement of vehicle inspection regulations. Portable’s experience may raise public awareness about the importance of regular brake checks, especially ahead of high‑profile gatherings.

The naming ceremony concluded without further incident, and Portable resumed his promotional activities for upcoming music projects.
