President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio affirmed that Akwa Ibom State will deliver the largest vote tally for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South‑South region in the forthcoming presidential election.
Akpabio made the remarks during a consultation with senior members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Government House in Uyo. The gathering, convened by Governor Umo Eno, focused on the governor’s intent to seek re‑election later this year. Akpabio’s comments were relayed by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.
“Today’s event shows Governor Eno is a peaceful leader, a man of God in word and deed,” Akpabio said. “His calm disposition and inclusive approach give us confidence that Akwa Ibom will produce the highest number of votes for the party in the South‑South zone.”
The senator highlighted Governor Eno’s unopposed bid for the APC ticket, noting the incumbent’s willingness to consult party members as a hallmark of his character. “If you travel across the state you will see a functioning government—projects are being initiated, completed and commissioned for the people. Even previously abandoned works are now finishing,” Akpabio added.
He also praised the recent launch of international flights at Victor Attah International Airport, calling it evidence of the governor’s commitment to development. “That is a governor who puts the progress of his people at heart,” Akpabio said, congratulating the administration on the achievement.
Turning to the national level, Akpabio expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for supporting the appointment of an Akwa Ibom native to the Senate presidency. “The people and government of Akwa Ibom are thankful for the President’s backing, and we will show our appreciation at the polls,” he declared.
The statements come as the APC prepares for a highly contested election cycle, with party leaders emphasizing unity and performance‑based campaigning. Stakeholders in the South‑South region will be watching Akwa Ibom’s voter mobilisation efforts closely, given the state’s historical significance as a political stronghold for the ruling party.
Akpabio’s comments underscore the strategic importance the APC places on delivering strong regional endorsements ahead of the national vote, while Governor Eno’s administration seeks to translate infrastructure projects into electoral support. The next months are expected to see intensified campaign activities across the state as parties vie for voter confidence ahead of the scheduled election.
