Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian Afro‑beat icon Burna Boy have unveiled “Dai Dai,” the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The track was announced on Shakira’s social‑media accounts on Friday and is now streaming on all major platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Amazon Music.
In a concurrent post, FIFA confirmed the release, describing the song as a “high‑energy celebration of the passion and global spirit that will define the greatest show on earth.” “Dai Dai” will serve as the tournament’s official anthem and will support FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative that seeks to raise US$100 million by the end of the competition to provide children worldwide with access to quality education and football programmes.
Royalties from the single will be donated to the fund, with Shakira contributing her share and Sony Music Latin matching the first US$250,000 raised. The lyrics centre on resilience, ambition and unity, weaving references to football legends such as Pelé, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah, as well as to a broad roster of football‑loving nations including Brazil, Argentina, the United States, England, Germany, France, South Africa, Japan and the Netherlands.
The collaboration marks Shakira’s return to the World Cup soundtrack after the 2010 hit “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” and the 2014 single “La La La.” Burna Boy’s involvement is the second appearance of a Nigerian artist on a FIFA World Cup song, following Davido’s participation on the 2022 Qatar anthem “Hayya Hayya (Better Together).”
FIFA also announced that Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 tournament, scheduled to begin on June 11 in Los Angeles with a match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium.
“Dai Dai” adds a fresh, multicultural voice to the World Cup’s musical legacy while directing its commercial success toward education and sport development for children across the globe. The song’s performance on streaming charts and the progress of the Global Citizen Education Fund will be watched closely as the tournament approaches.
