The South African Consulate in Lagos, in partnership with Afroflavour, has announced the postponement of this year’s South African Heritage Day celebration in Nigeria. The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, 20 September 2025, will now take place on Saturday, 11 October 2025 at Ibru Gardens on Louis Solomon Close in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Organisers said the decision was driven by a forecast of heavy rain on the original date. The consulate and its partners emphasised the importance of ensuring sponsors, vendors, and attendees can enjoy the programme without weather-related disruption.
The celebration will run from 12pm to 8pm. General admission tickets are priced at N10,000, with VIP access at N50,000, available through www.naija.events.
This year’s programme centres on cultural exchange between South Africa and Nigeria. A highlight includes a simulated “Trip to Cape Town” experience, complete with an Afroflavour Passport and boarding pass. A Pan African Culture Market will feature food, Fashion, jewellery, craftsmanship, and art from across the continent.
Culinary offerings will showcase traditional South African dishes such as bobotie, bunny chow, and Cape Malay curry alongside Nigerian delicacies. Attendees can also photograph a replica of Shaka Zulu’s throne, a symbol of Zulu heritage.
Live performances will spotlight South African jazz and traditional music. The Afroliganza Fashion Procession, curated by the Lai Labode Heritage Foundation, will present South African designs alongside Nigerian fashion from Yoruba, Urhobo, Hausa, and Igbo traditions.
A Creators Lab will host sideline discussions on culture, food, and the Africa 2063 agenda. The inaugural “Tripe Love: 6 Nation Tripe Cookoff” will bring together chefs from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Morocco, and Zimbabwe in a culinary competition celebrating the ingredient’s place in African food heritage.
