Herder Killed in Plateau’s Bassa, Troops Recover 50 Cattle

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have recovered the body of a Fulani herder killed by unidentified assailants while grazing cattle in the Kimis area of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State. The victim, identified as Mohammed Rabo, was attacked at approximately 4:40 p.m. on July 31, according to intelligence sources.

Security personnel from Sector 1 of the operation responded to a distress call reporting the assault. Upon arrival, they found Rabo dead at the scene. The attackers had fled before troops could intercept them. The body was subsequently released to the victim’s family for burial in accordance with local customs.

In a related action, troops recovered 50 head of cattle belonging to the slain herder. The livestock was handed over to Rabo’s father, Alhaji Rabo, in the presence of Ardo Adamu Dabo, a Fulani community leader. The measure was taken to prevent the animals from being stolen or becoming a flashpoint for further tension.

Security sources confirmed that a manhunt for the perpetrators has been launched. Patrols have been intensified across the area to track down those responsible and to forestall any reprisal attacks.

The incident adds to a pattern of violence recorded in Bassa LGA, where Operation Enduring Peace continues to maintain security operations aimed at protecting both farming and pastoral communities. Authorities say the sustained presence is intended to prevent further escalation and to stabilize a region long affected by recurring clashes over land and resource access.
