Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has called on prominent Mount Kenya East leaders to align with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, warning that continued association with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua risks political marginalisation.
Speaking at separate public meetings in Chuka/Igambang’ombe Constituency in Tharaka Nithi County and Kiritiri in Mbeere South Constituency, Embu County, Ruku identified Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, Party of National Unity leader Peter Munya, and Devolution Empowerment Party leader Lenny Kivuti as influential figures whose support would strengthen the region’s political voice and bargaining power ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Cabinet Secretary accused Gachagua of pursuing divisive politics and repeatedly turning against political allies, citing the former deputy president’s public criticism of former President Uhuru Kenyatta as evidence. Ruku further alleged that Gachagua was attempting to isolate the Mount Kenya region from the national government, warning that such an approach could undermine development and economic opportunities for residents.
Ruku urged residents to evaluate the Kenya Kwanza administration by its development record, highlighting the Kiambere–New Site Road, the Machanga–PI Road, and the Kamburu Bulk Water Project as evidence of government commitment to the region. He maintained that President William Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki remain focused on accelerating development through continued investment in infrastructure and public services.
The Cabinet Secretary dismissed claims that Gachagua holds exclusive political influence over the Mount Kenya region, stating that no individual can determine the community’s political direction. He argued that Gachagua’s differences are with the government rather than the Kikuyu community, urging members of the Kikuyu diaspora to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Ruku noted that President Ruto had demonstrated inclusivity by appointing leaders from the Kikuyu diaspora to senior government positions, which he said reflected the administration’s commitment to equitable representation.
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Chuka/Igambang’ombe Member of Parliament Patrick Munene, Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi, Lafey MP Mohammed Abdi, and Taveta MP John Bwire. The legislators echoed calls for residents to support the government’s development agenda and remain united behind the Kenya Kwanza administration.
